Penny University
After Mad Nest, we went back to Penny University for coffee and desserts.
Photos are a little dark for this entry! :(
Anyway, very little words. I don't really remember much except that I was very comfortable on the sofa. We stayed till closing time.
"Penny University is a term originating from the 18th-century coffeehouses in London, England. Instead of paying for drinks, people were charged a penny to enter a coffeehouse. Once inside, the patron had access to coffee, the company of others, various discussions, pamphlets, bulletins, newspapers, and the latest news and gossip."
Of course, we weren't only charged a penny here lah. I went to do a rough currency convert and if I didn't count wrongly, 1 penny is 2 cents in Singapore dollars. We spent approximately $18. A far cry from 2 cents. Haha.
It was a quiet and cold night... So it felt especially cozy to be sitting beside my bf and drinking coffee ^_^
I think my cup of latte was good. Bf got himself a pot of hot tea. I loved the Meringue!! It's so so so yums and it melts in the mouth! I didn't really like the cake though, but the crust was nice!

Mad Nest
Remember the dinner date I mentioned in the outfit entry previously?
We were planning to have dinner at a little cafe but the kitchen had closed so we settled for Mad Nest, that was along the same street. It is a fairly new restaurant, opened only in the third-quarter of 2012.
I was attracted by the interior. It was white, spacious and very modern.
There was an art exhibition going on too.
Various types of cuisine are available at this restaurant! I went for Japanese and had the ramen and chawanmushi. The ramen is not bad, but you can give the chawanmushi a miss.
I liked the salmon skin maki quite a lot! The crunchiness and taste of the deep fried salmon skin was good.
I liked Bf's pasta, which had some local, spicy twist to it.

CNY Preparations!
Last night mum was shopping for Cny decorations and my sis took this pot to tease my dad.
Sis: Can you see the beautiful flower?
Dad: *looks closely*
Sis: Only clever people can see the flower.
Hahaha.
After that, I took this pot of flower and showed it to my dad.
Me: Can you see the beautiful flower?
Dad: Yes!
Me: Only stupid people can see the flower.
Hahahaha. We all had a good laugh over it. You will understand if you read the storybook "The Emperor's New Clothes" before. Haha.

I'm so excited about the upcoming CNY! ^_^ Looking forward to eating lots and lots of bakkwa and pineapple tarts!
I also look forward to wearing my new clothes - 4 sets of clothes for Chu Xi to Chu San! I mentioned on twitter last week that one of my new year dresses dictates that I have to cut down some fats before CNY comes but after a week of half-hearted dieting, I think I won't succeed already. So, I have decided to forgo that dress and get something else! Haha, so much for determination. Abit sad because that dress is very pretty and the thought of having to squeeze out one day this week to jostle with the rest of the last-minute crowd at the malls again makes me a little sian. I'm sure a lot of you are feeling the same way too!

Guan Chee Fish Head Steamboat
Quick update today!
It was another family day out quite some time back! We went to Parkway Parade for shopping and it was a good day with good food!
For lunch we went to the hawker centre nearby and had a bowl of yummy lor mee. We sat right infront of the owner's shop and the owner was very chatty! We also ordered his handmade fishball soup after that too. Another stall nearby was selling popiah and it's so good! I'm not a fan of popiah usually but that one was a definite thumbs up. There were crunchy bits in it and the roll was wrapped tight.
Anyway, today I want to blog about a place that serves awesome fish steamboat!!! We settled at Guan Chee Fish Head Steamboat for dinner. It is actually a little corner beside the food court. Surprisingly, the food was so good! Not sure if it is really so nice all the time or just that day, but I was so impressed.
I have ate fish head steamboat elsewhere before but it's all so diluted. The one here was very fragrant and thick! We got the Garoupa steamboat at $40 for medium size. The big chunks of fish was fresh and very nice! I felt it was quite pricey though. If fish soup at hawker/food court taste so good, I'd have it every other day.
We also had the pork rib which was tender and yummy, a plate of good sambal kangkong and my favorite prawn paste chicken which I would definitely order at any zi-char stall if I can.
Outfit is a two-piece set (overlay + floral dress) from www.mamatiam.com at $13. I have already rewore the cotton floral dress underneath on other days many times already! ^_^
Floral hairband is from from www.coccomomo.com! I think it completes the whole outfit!

Afternoon Tea
Today, I'm going to blog about how you can prepare your own girly "afternoon tea party"! I was inspired after scrolling through numerous photos of quaint, pretty afternoon tea parties. However, I didn't want to spend money buying new tea-sets and cake holders, so I used whatever I could find at home!
First, to decide on a theme. I'm quite sure that my house won't have those exquisite crystal or vintage cutlery, so I decided to do pastel floral!
Here are some photos:
I'm glad I found this pretty floral tea cup and saucer in my kitchen! Fits the theme perfectly! I actually used normal Lipton Tea but I wrapped the label with something I printed out myself so that it looks nicer!
For the serving plate, I did a layered one like what I did below, but I couldn't find matching plates in both sizes! Placed a lace mat below the plates to make the setting more lovely!
Afternoon tea almost always involved cake holders. I didn't have one, so I improvised using what I already have! Took a glass that looks like wine glass to support a small plate for the leveled effect! Remember to stick the plate to the glass using really good glue, if not it's quite dangerous if it falls. I recommend to stick another plate to the base so that it's more balance!
Found another nice floral plate to hold the rest of the nibbles.
Placing some flowers on the table completes the whole setting!

Floral skirt to go with the theme, and light, neutral shoes and accessories to match.
This was simple and placed together really quick. Would love to do a more elaborate and prettier one complete with buntings, poms, table cloth, and more decor next time! Have been pestering my sister to let me organize her 21st Birthday Party coming soon in a couple of years so that I get to do something like this on a bigger scale but so far she has been rejecting my advances. Lol. Will continue to pester her until she relents!

Azur Festive Buffet
Attended a food tasting session at Azur (Crowne Plaza Changi Airport) with the girls and some bloggers last week!
While waiting for the rest of the guests to arrive, we attacked their usual buffet spread first! Fidelis was going gaga over their oysters!
I loved the setting and cozy atmosphere in the restaurant.
We were there to taste their Chinese New Year festive buffet menu!
Of course, we started off with the traditional 'Lo Hei'! Besides being available for takeaway ($48+ / $68+) at the lobby lounge till 24th February 2013, the Yusheng will also be featured as part of the buffet spread!
Named "Three Treasures Yu Sheng", our Yusheng had all the additional special toppings including Sliced Abalone, Fresh Hokkigai Surf Clam, Meikajiki Toro (Swordfish Belly), Fresh Norwegian Salmon, and Yuzu Ginseng Dressing.
The vegetables are made to order, so you can be sure of the freshness! I personally liked the very yummy salmon! The bakkwa strips added in was a nice touch too.
Look at our huge pile of Yusheng, with a 'snake' on top to signify the new snake year!
Noticed how the chiense words above are mostly about wealth? Haha. Aiya, forgot to add "一本万利" too!
Then, the food came! These are some of the highlights of the festive buffet spread. So if you are heading there with your family for Reunion dinner, read on to find out which are the ones you should have multiple servings of. Haha! That's the good thing about buffet isn't it? You get to eat as many servings as you want if you like a particular dish.
* Rule 240 - Behind the un-understandable name, this drink went very well with the rest of the dishes. Dragonfruit juice, which represents the meaning "Bye Bye Dragon (year)"
* Treasures of the Ocean Seafood Soup with Fish Maw, Dried Scallops and Crabmeat
* Confit Salmon accompanied with Darjeeling Beurre Blanc Braised Sea Cucumber - My favourite dish of the night!
* Wok Fried Sea Prawns with Mixed Berries Infused with Margarine and Milk - I liked this so much I had 2 servings! Plump and yummy prawns!
* Baby Abalone with Superior “Conpoy” Gravy
* Fragrant Glutinous Rice with Pork Belly and Pork Lard - The presentation was extremely pretty!
* Desserts Trio of Chinese New Year Pastries: Mandarin Orange Mousse Lychee, Osmanthus Jello, Tempura Nian Kow - The mousse was so cute! We were told it was a mini version of the big one which customers can slice their own portion from the buffet spread. It was soft and yummy!
What a feast!
Afterwards, we had a birthday surprise for Jacelyn! Hehe. The durian cake was so good!
Had a great chat with the others over yummy food! Can't wait for the real reunion dinner next week with my family!
